Special Assets is a phrase used by bankers to categorize those of us who have a difficult time repaying a loan obligation. In fact they have departments that manage the portfolios of Special Assets and people whose careers are built around ensuring the Special Assets are collected. But when you think about it, the phrase Special Assets can be used to label not only money, but countless items that are near and dear to us. Including people, places, and things. And so it was that I chose to use this play on words to name the multiple volume series of books that feature Patricia Duncan.
The Jeff Doyle Special Assets Series now spans five generations, beginning in the mid 1800's. The stories chronicle the history of the west as the frontier transitioned from its famed gold rush days into the urbanized kingdom that we know today. The first two books in the series introduce key families within the series and cover the years from 1989 through 2003.
Research for Irresistible Leverage - Special Assets 2 and Silver Lining - Special Assets 3 was a real time endeavor that came from the school of hard knocks. I owned a small business for several years, and with that, I had the fortune to experience some great and some not so great moments. After several banner years, I awoke one day to find the business confronted by three disputes. The events that followed were awful and I should hope that no one ever has to experience what my family endured. All tolled, the fall out from the business problems created seventy legal complaints most of which were filed in Superior Court. But a hand full ended up in private dispute resolution and Federal Court and there is where I discovered the more interesting stuff that began to knit together the Special Assets stories.
